We recently added yogurt to our baby's diet. We have been using the Stonyfield Farms YoBaby brand since that is what our grocer carries. She took to this new food like a fish to water, sometimes chowing down a whole container after she petered out on her veggies! I decided to have a lick of the yogurt to see what she liked so much about it (even though dairy and me don't get along so well). My first impression was "Wow – that's some tasty goodness right there!" My second impression was "Wow – that's wicked sweet tasting!" Alas, one of the ingredients is sugar…in addition to the natural sugars in the fruit and yogurt.
Because we want to avoid getting her hooked on sweet foods, we decided that we should not feed her any more YoBaby. As an alternative we create our own baby yogurt by mixing some baby-food fruit (like pureed peaches or pears) with plain, whole milk yogurt (also Stonyfield Farm). She still eats it up readily and it has a lot less sugar.
